FISHER X-100-3 Integrated 7189 Tube Amp new electrolytic caps, cherry cabinet

  

This amp and its wood cabinet are in nice cosmetic condition with all original knobs, a clean and unscratched faceplate (some minor lettering wear at the volume control), no rust on the chassis or transformers, and a beautiful cherry wood cabinet. I installed all new electrolytic caps in the power supply, tested all tubes and replaced as needed, cleaned the tube sockets and all switches/controls with Caig DeOxit, measured operating voltages throughout to ensure proper operating condition, and last, but not least, played music through it on all inputs. It is working fine and sounding great. The four-section electrolytic filter can capacitor was replaced by a new, original style metal can capacitor from CE Distribution.

All other filter capacitors were replaced by installing the caps underneath the chassis (see photos). Output tubes are a quad of used/test strong 7189 tubes producing 17 watts per channel RMS. The brands are (1) Mullard and (3) Raytheon. Tube pairs are matched within 10% Gm at: pair 1: 7800, 7500 umhos and pair 2: 7300, 7200 umhos.

This is required for proper/balanced push-pull amplification in the output stage. Minimum Gm for a good 7189 tube on my Hickok tester is 4500 umhos. The five 12AX7 tubes all test strong (two needed to be replaced) and include: (2) Telefunken 12AX7 in phono stage, (1) RCA 12AX7 and (2) JJ ECC83S/12AX7 tubes for the line stage, tone controls and driver tubes. The amp, including cabinet, measures 16 inches wide X 13 inches deep (measuring to front of control knobs) X 6 inches tall.
