Your Fisher X-1000 is a very special and very exquisite example of fine vintage tube audio, and is one of the most powerful and most versatile integrated vacuum tube amplifier ever made by any company. Yet, despite its awesome power and heft, the X-1000 can reproduce the most delicate, intricate of musical passages with a degree of class not often seen in tube audio equipment. This upgrade will allow you amplifier to perform to its absolute full potential.

As you may (or may not) be aware, Fisher amplifiers have substantial problems with old, failing film capacitors and in the biasing of the output tubes. They were biased WAY to hot even as new. Improper adjustment of the bias circuit can cause the amplifier power supply to run excessively hot, cause uneven and premature aging of your valuable output tubes, and causing avoidable distortions.

With some luck, the power transformer won't fail. It WILL , however, always be operating at excessively. Due to the strain and wasted power. The eventual and inevitable result is that your precious set is running. Until final failure forces replacement of some costly EL-34 (or 6CA7) output tubes!

To make matters worse, the output tubes of an original X-1000 CANNOT be properly balanced/biased without a distortion analyzer and other instruments not usually found in the home of the average audiophile. This kit provides parts and instructions to enable the rebuilder to make sensible yet non-compromising changes to the output tube stage that allows both biasing AND matching of output tubes using only a digital multimeter! This is accomplished using the existing adjustment controls. This basically allows output tube matching RIGHT IN THE SET!

In addition, you will install appropriately sized cathode resistors that will PROTECT your transformers in the event of a shorted output tube in which case the resistor will fail instead of your transformer. The new configuration and resistors will not only act as protective devices, you will also now be able to measure (with a standard digital multimeter) the EXACT BIAS CURRENT of EACH output tube, ensuring a good match. As an added benefit, the power supply will operate in a more relaxed fashion, and the much cooler operating temperatures will be immediately apparent. Just think of all the stress the power transformer is under - and this power is being wasted just to prematurely age your output tubes and generate. This kit provides ALL new replacements of the small electrolytic capacitors to replace the old dried out originals which have developed all kinds of leakage and other age related problems, as well as SEVEN new VERY HEAVY DUTY silicon diodes to replace the tired old originals.

53 individual components are supplied for installation/replacement! Yes, it will take some time, however, it is a very thorough process. Very high quality film capacitors are provided to replace the original mylar capacitors which are now fragile and leaky after 50+ years of heat and torture. The failure of an old coupling capacitor can easily spell disaster for an output transformer! Our RESTO-PAKS contain the finest quality modern components available today.

This includes specific resistors and ALL small electrolytic capacitors as well as ALL signal and coupling capacitors that are known to fail. Good soldering skills and the ability to follow a schematic are required. Although if you know which end of a soldering iron to hold you should not encounter any major problems.

Our package includes a nice enlarged copy of the original owners manual, the CORRECT Fisher service manual for your specific unit, and our detailed restoration procedure covering everything you need to know about your unit. The procedure can correct many weak spots in the unit that can harm audio frequency response, provide safer operation, etc. All resistors and capacitors that must be changed in the entire set are noted in the manuals, as are the bias circuit upgrades. AC Balance adjustment instructions are also included. Also included are very detailed instructions on SAFELY cleaning the face panel and chassis.
