Nice Pair of Ampex F2044 10 Watt Tube Integrated Amplifiers

  
Up for sale is a pair (two units) of Ampex 10 watt integrated amplifiers from F2044 suitcase speaker/amplifiers. These units are the newer style Ampex amplifiers that have solid state high voltage rectifiers. One unit still has a sticker from the University of Colorado along with the sticker number "etched" into the faceplate.

Both amps have rubber feet to raise them off the mounting surface to improve cooling. There are plastic and insulating sheet covers on the bottoms of both amps. The phono input is simply another line input and would match the output of an outboard phono preamp if using a magnetic cartridge. The amps both made a trip through the lab at home with the following results: Voltages and filter capacitors all checked fine. Cleaned controls and input switches on both units.

Power output and distortion was checked on both amps with these results: Even though there is only one speaker tap on the output transformer, the amps both produce 10 "honest" watts into both 8 ohm and 16 ohm loads. Distortion at 10 watts was less than 0.3% at 1,000Hz on both amps. I checked frequency response to determine the function of the tone controls. "Flat" response occurs when the bass control is set to "0" and the treble control is set to "4". Both amps checked the same. Both amps have Telefunken EF86 preamp tubes and RCA 6V6 output tubes. One amp has a Siemens (West German) 12AU7A driver and the other amp uses an RCA 12AU7A. Signal-to-Noise was -80db in one amplifier and -78db in the other. The units each idle at 0.38 amps from a 120 VAC source.
