Nice rebuilt Mcintosh MA230 Integrated Tube Amplifier! P/U in Coastal NC only

  

Mcintosh MA230 MA-230 SS Preamplifier w/ Tube Amplifier Integrated Amplifier. Amp is in very nice cosmetic condition and it is in excellent working order. Every capacitor in the amp and preamp section has been recently replaced with a brand new capacitor. These were replaced with the proper value CE Manufacturing or Authenticap can type capacitors. These cost more but give the amp the proper factory look and they are used in the most expensive professional restorations.

I could have used whatever film capacitors I wanted but I chose to use Illinois MWR polyester, Orange Drop polyester film, and other quality polyester film or metallized polyester capacitors when the original caps used by McIntosh were polyester. This was done to preserve the original warm and natural sound quality.

Higher end and much more expensive boutique polypropylene caps were also tried in the coupling section but they were a bit on the bright side so they just did not sound right, correct or natural in this amp. Polyester was indeed the proper and best choice with this amp just as many McIntosh and restoration techs have also suggested. In a lower end tube amp the type of dialectic used in the caps may not be that critical or even that noticeable, but with a McIntosh you will hear subtle differences with different caps (both good and bad) so capacitor choice is more critical if you want to maintain the original sound at least in my experience.

The front glass is in excellent condition with no bubbles that I can see. There is some light pitting on chassis but it is not bad or about average. This Amp will provide you a lifetime of reliable service and great sound in it's present condition and you need not do anything.

Many McIntosh tube Amps were used a radio station monitors in the 1960's because they were able to run continuously 24/7 365 with our even having to change the tubes in many cases. This MA-230 is no exception. I will include a vintage set of strong Westinghouse 7591 power tubes as well as an almost new matched quad of Russian Tung-Sol 7591 tubes with very low hours on them. The 12AX7 tubes are vintage Amperex and Mullard and they sound excellent. Comes from a smoke free and pet free home.
