The Fisher KX-100 tube stereo integrated amplifier with 7868 outputs (4) and 12AX7 preamp/drivers (6). Outputs for 4, 8 or 16 ohm speakers.

The amp cosmetics are good for its age. The front panel labeling is intact, there are some slight rub marks by the volume control from use of the control. The chassis has the usual oxidation on the plating, but no rust or corrosion. See the photos which show all sides of the unit.

The power cord is in good condition, the rubber insulation has not hardened. The mono/stereo/reverse switch knob plastic around the switch shaft was broken off, I glued the plastic piece back on and it appears to be holding. This knob is not usually used. The amplifier has not been refurbished and is in it's original unmodified condition.

I tested the six 12AX7 tubes and they test strong with the 2 sides of each tube balanced. 5 of the 12AX7 tubes are vintage Sylvania tubes and 1 is a Raytheon tube. Even though the 12AX7 tubes test strong, don't assume the same is true of the output tubes... They may be weak or good.

I briefly powered up the amplifier using a variac and found the following. The amp takes approximately 30-35 seconds to start playing.

The left and right outputs are balanced and I don't hear distortion. I didn't try running the amp at high volumes. With no input signal, the output is quiet with very low hum. Several of the slide switches were intermittent, I deoxed those controls and they now work without problem.

The right output was unusually loud when the loudness control was switched on. I replaced a mylar capacitor at the loudness control which corrected the problem.

All of the rotary controls worked smoothly and correctly without any noise. Current draw was normal and stable around. 95 amp with the volume turned down. I checked the phono and various aux inputs and they all were good. The amp is almost 60 years old and should be gone over by a technician to ensure long term reliability and maximum performance.

Please make the decision to return the amp before starting any refurbishing or modification of the amp.
